Oddly enough i settled with the new SRW OG (admittedly because i am familiar with the source material, but i have to say that the first batch of episodes is unexpectedly good) and Shiki which debuted during the summer season and is currently in the middle of its television run.
At first glance it looks like your average Higurashi clone, but it doesn't take long to realize that it's more similar to a Japanese take on Stephen King's Salem's Lot. The premise is essentially the same with some quirky characters thrown in the mix and Gackt as VA for the main bad guy.
I can understand why this series doesn't have much follow up: the first episode is absolutely atrocious. Your mileage may vary on this, but i found the first minutes almost unwatchable due to a confusing direction and an even worse script. It blends well with the personality of Megumi Shimizu (the first episode is mostly seen through her point of view) but it's a poor introduction to the series so, unless you are impressed by the art style or introduced by positive word of mouth (my case), you may be tempted to skip it from the very beginning.
The rest seems to be quite solid and it has some nice touches, like the village doctor which is the closest thing that i ever seen to an anime version of House MD.
Overall give it a watch if you have the time, after all it fits well with the Halloween atmosphere

ci vuole un pò anche per digerire il chara, che è molto spigoloso e grottesco, ma alla fine è in linea con la storia.
l'unica cosa è che il protagonista mi ricorda troppo il protagonista della serie di Yugioh che va sulle moto, e ogni tanto mi aspetto che tiri fuori un Kuribo, cosa che è un pò spoetizzante XD (non che al protagonista di shiki non farebbe comodo un bel mazzo di carte di yugioh, magari a tema "sacro")
Fortunamente leggo che nei libri originali e nel manga c'e' una struttura a due e l'altro protagonista e' l'emulo giovanile del dr House che si pettina con l'aspirapolvere. In effetti quando si passa al suo punto di vista la storia migliora e non di poco.
Per il chara un altro problema sono alcune capigliature troppo estrose; ok finche' si tratta dei vampiri originali (con qualche eccezione: Tatsumi e' troppo ridicolo...), ma ti ammazza la tensione di una scena il pensare continuamente a quanto sono assurdi i capelli a segnale di fumo dell'infermiera.
Cmq penso che la continuero' anche perche' il tema di "Le Notti di Salem" mi e' sempre piaciuto e questa e' la cosa piu' vicina ad una versione anime XD
